The Sin of the Watchers
Part 2 in As in the Days of Noah Series
Matthew 24:42 “Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Master is coming.” (TS2009)
Welcome to part 2 of the As in the Days of Noah Series!
In part 1, we explored angels. We learned about a particular type of angel: watchers. As their name implies, their job is to watch over humans and report what they see to Elohim (God).
Satan was the first watcher to rebel. YHWH (the Lord) removed him from his post in Heaven. He now roams the Earth wreaking havoc. Other watchers followed Satan in active rebellion against YHWH.
Today, we’ll examine the sins of the fallen watchers.
The Watchers’ Fall
1 Enoch 15:6-7 teaches that angels were not intended to have wives and reproduce. Yahushua (Jesus) alluded to this in Matthew 22:30 and Mark 12:25. Elohim did not create female angels.
Elohim did not create female angels.
But the watchers wanted wives. In the days of Jered (Enoch’s father and Noah’s great-great-grandfather), 200 watchers formed a coup. (1 Enoch 6:3-6) They disguised themselves as humans, chose wives, and had children.
Genesis 6:1-2 “It came to be, when men began to increase on the face of the earth, and daughters were born to them, that the sons of Elohim saw the daughters of men, that they were good. And they took wives for themselves of all whom they chose.” (TS2009)
Genesis 6:4 “The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of Elohim came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, the men of name.” (TS2009)
(See also 1 Enoch 6:1-7:2, Testament of Reuben 5:6, and Testament of Naphtali 3:5)
The fallen watchers’ children were not ordinary. They were giants. Many Bible translations call them by their Hebrew name Nephilim.
Nephilim were a hybrid species, not from YHWH. They were half human and half angelic. Part mortal and part immortal.
The fallen Watchers taught their wives, their children, and the other humans many wicked practices. (1 Enoch 7-8) They introduced the following sins:
Fornication
Abortion
Drugs
Sorcery
Astrology
Gene alteration
Drinking blood
Cannibalism
Weapon Production
War
Human genes were altered. Fornication was ramped. Much blood was shed. The thoughts of mankind were only evil continually. YHWH needed to intervene.
Genesis 6:5 “And יהוה saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” (TS2009)
YHWH’s Judgment
Not all watchers fell. Many remained faithful to YHWH. Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael are well known for their loyalty and service. YHWH used the faithful to judge the fallen.
The faithful watchers imprisoned the fallen in an abyss under the Earth (a.k.a. Sheol). There they await their eternal punishment on Judgment Day. (1 Enoch 10:11-16, Jubilees 5:6,10) The Apostles Peter and Jude referred to this.
2 Peter 2:4-5 “For if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but threw them into hell and locked them up in chains in utter darkness, to be kept until the judgment, and if he did not spare the ancient world, but did protect Noah, a herald of righteousness, along with seven others, when God brought a flood on an ungodly world.” (NET)
Jude 1:6 “You also know that the angels who did not keep within their proper domain but abandoned their own place of residence, he has kept in eternal chains in utter darkness, locked up for the judgment of the great Day.” (NET)
The Watchers’ Sins Present Today
Matthew 24:37 “For as were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.” (ESV)
Yahushua said that as in the days of Noah so it would be before His return. The days of Noah were marked with many evils and heightened demonic activity.
Before Yahushua’s return, we will again see the evils that the Watchers taught. This includes war, abortion, GMOs, homosexuality, and the alteration of human DNA.
These sins are rampant in our generation.
What Happened to the Watcher’s Children?
In part 3 of this series, we’ll explore the watchers’ children: the Nephilim.
What are the Nephilim?
What happened to them during the Flood?
Why do they reappear later in the Bible?
What role will the Nephilim play before Yahushua’s return?

The Return of the Nephilim
Sirach 16:7 “He [the Lord] was not pacified toward the old giants, who fell away in the strength of their foolishness.” (KJVA)

So good!! I enjoyed reading the book of Enoch. You inspired that adventure for me.. even though I didn’t finish it, I certainly learned a lot.
I appreciate the list of the sins of the watchers, as I strongly believe that we will see the same sins infiltrate the world in the End Days, "the days of Noah." So, yeah -- fornication, gene manipulation, abortion, drugs, sorcery, weapon manufacturing, etc. -- its all a part of today's world. The evil has to increase before righteous can prevail. I think 1 Enoch and Jubilees shed light into that, too.
